Licensed dealers are registered with their local authority under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013. A legitimate buyer will always ask for photographic ID and will never offer cash — cash payment for scrap is illegal in the UK. If either of those is missing, walk away.

Both happen. Many merchants collect for larger loads, and some supply a bin or skip for ongoing volumes, while smaller quantities are usually delivered to the yard. Collection normally comes with a minimum weight, so it is worth asking when you make contact.
